Chocolate Mug Cake: Sin in a Cup

chocolate mug cake

The sweet craving is a guilt tease which can come knocking at any time of the hour. Indulgence becomes a must and when it does it is always good to know how to satisfy the craving. This one mug recipe is specially for those lovers of chocolates like me who can never say no to it. It is easier to make and takes very less time to prepare thereby reducing the wait time before you start digging in. Another good thing about this mug cake is, you will only need one mug to do the whole prepping and baking process. I have named this dish "Sin in a Cup" and I hope you know what that means ;)

Method:

  • First, in a microwave-safe mug add in all purpose flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, coffee powder and salt. Then give the dry ingredients a good mix.
  • Then add in the milk, vanilla essence and oil. Mix all the ingredients until well incorporated.
  • Finally mix in some chocolate chunks into the batter
  • Now microwave for 2 minute or bake for 20 mins 200C temperature (here I've used a 1200W oven, if yours is different then the timing may vary, so best is to do a toothpick test before taking it out)
  • Allow it to cool for couple of minutes ad garnish it with choco syrup and choco shavings or you can serve the cake with some whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
    Enjoy!

Notes/ Tips:

  • You can also use brown sugar instead of white to give the cake a nice gooey texture.
  • I have used semi dark chocolate, you can use chocolate (dark/milky) of your choice
  • I like coffee flavour in my choco cake, you can skip it as per your preference.

Preparation time: 15mins
Cook time: 40mins
Servings: 1 cake(5 inch)

Ingredients
25 Bourbon biscuit (250gms)
1 sachet ENO (1tsp)
1 cup milk/water

1 tsp Clarified butter/Oil (for greasing)
2 tsp Powdered Sugar (optional)
Nuts and chocolate syrup for garnish (optional)
Water as required for steaming

Method :
  • In a mixer jar add the bourbon biscuit and blend to make a fine powder.
  • Transfer to a mixing bowl add sugar(optional) and half quantity of milk
  • Stir to make a lump free batter
  • Add the remaining milk and make smooth batter. Keep it aside
  • Let’s preheat the pressure cooker, pour water and place a wire stand or anything that will elevate the height. Cover and allow the water to come to a boil for about 10 minutes.
  • Grease a 5 inch round cake tin/ any vessel of your choice and keep it aside
  • Once pressure cooker is preheated finally add ENO powder to the batter
  • Stir in one direction only, your batter is ready
  • Pour this batter in cake tin and tap once or twice to remove air bubbles
  • Garnish with nuts or choco chips(optional)
  • Carefully Place the cake tin on the stand and close the cooker. Steam the cake over low heat for about 25 minutes
  • Do a toothpick test if it comes out clean that means your cakes is baked properly
  • Remove the cake and allow to cool down completely
  • Once cooled clear the edges and transfer the cake on a serving plate
  • Drizzle some chocolate syrup or can slice and serve the super soft and moist cake immediately

Notes/Tips
    • Bake the cake in low heat, high heat creates crack on the cak
    • You can use baking powder or soda instead of eno, but you will have to also use some lemon juice or vinegar along with that.
    • You can also bake the cake in the oven in a preheated oven at 180°C for 25 minutes.
    • You can also bake this cake in idli cooker in the same way
    • Once cake is baked allow it to cool down completely or else cake may get crumbled
