Onion Bhajiya | Pakoda | Kanda bhajji

One of the most loved snack in Mumbai is onion bhajiya also called Kanda (onion) bhajiya/Onion fritters. This crunchy delight is best for evening snacks along with a cup of tea or coffee. Here I have prepared this dish without adding baking powder still keeping it crunchy and tasty.

Preparation time : 10 mins

Cooking time : 15 mins

Ingredients

2 medium sized Onions 2 green chili 1 tsp crushed Coriander seeds 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds 4 tbsp Gram flour/Besan Coriander leaves
Cooking oil
Salt as per taste

Method :

  1. Take sliced onion in a bowl. Make sure to slice the onion thin.
  2. Now add finely chopped green chili, Crushed Coriander seeds,Cumin seeds, coriander leaves, salt as per taste & 4 tbsp besan/Gram flour
  3. Mix well without adding water reason being onion has its own moisture.
  4. Make sure all the onion slices are coated well with besan/gram flour.
  5. Heat oil in a deep pan over medium flame for deep frying. Once oil is hot add a spoonful of mixture in hot oil.
  6. Fry them until they become golden brown on both sides. Keep turning the pakodas/bhajiyas for even frying.
  7. Make sure to fry few bhajiyas at a time so that you do not overcrowd them.
  8. Remove them in a kitchen towel & serve them hot.
Serve with garlic-groundnut chutney, coriander chutney/mint chutney, ketchup or can have with fried green chili along with tea or coffee.
